The 8 Mile Run & Walk will start directly in front of the Mission Point Resort. The Finish Line is located along the shores in the park across from Mission Point Resort.

The Mackinac Island State Park Commission has assessed a $8.00 Park Usage
Fee per person, and is included in the race entry fee.

Race Check-In
Entrants are required to pick up their race gear at the Mission Point Resort Sound Stage on

  • Friday, September 5, 4:00 - 8:00 PM
  • Saturday, September 6, 7:30 - 9:15 AM

We recommend you catch a ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace no later than 8:00 AM on race day.

Race Day Registration
Individuals may register on race day from 7:30 - 9:15 AM at the Mission Point Resort Sound Stage.

Gear Check
You may place your gear in the designated area of the Sound Stage. We ask that you do not store any valuables (i.e. wallets, purses, computers, iPods, etc.). We are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.

Course
The Start Line is located in front of Mission Point Resort, and the course will follow the perimeter of Mackinac Island in a clock-wise direction.  The first mile of the race will travel past Victorian homes, the boat harbor and a myriad of shops and hotels in downtown Mackinac Island.  Once through town, the route follows the shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac featuring breathtaking views of the Mackinac Bridge, neighboring islands and historic rock formations, finishing at waters edge on the lawn of Mission Point.  This course is fast and flat but the scenery is so beautiful, you may just decide to relax and enjoy!  The Finish Line is located along the shores in the park out front of Mission Point Resort.

Absolutely no roller blades, pets, wagons or other wheeled vehicles will be allowed on the course. Baby joggers are strongly discouraged due to safety concerns.

Awards

In celebration of our 44 years, we are offering gear in tremendous 8-Mile fashion.  Sorry, but we cannot guarantee apparel on race day to late entrants.  All finishers will receive a medal and post-race refreshments.

Run Awards: Awards to Overall and Masters male and female and the first five finishers in each age group.

Walk Awards: Awards to Overall and Masters male and female and the first three finishers in each age group; we will go deeper in some age groups depending on participation. (If you register for the walk, you cannot run at any time during the race. Walk will be scored on the honor system and monitored by your fellow walkers. Walkers will receive accurate times up to 2 1/2 hours.)

Age Groups - Both Events: 
Men & Women: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 & Over.

Note: There will be no formal awards ceremony. Please check the posted results after the race and if you have placed as an award winner, you may pick up your award at approximately 11:00 AM in the Sound Stage at Mission Point Resort.

Personally Engraved Awards:
Engravings are available for age-group awards at Bauman's Running & Walking Shop. You must mail a self-addressed stamped envelope to Bauman's Running & Walking Shop. 1473 W. Hill Road, Flint, MI 48507. Please include the following information:

Friday Night Pasta Dinner
Mission Point Resort will offer a pasta dinner at the Round Island Restaurant on Friday night, September 5.  An open menu will also be available to order your meals from.

» When does online registration close?

Online registration closes September 5, 2014. We will be taking additional registrations at the expo.

» Can I get a refund for my entry if I cannot participate in the race?

Our company policy does not allow refunds of any kind.

» Want to switch events?

We are more than welcome to make that change for you. Please use our Contact Us form and indicate which race you are currently registered for and which race you want to participate in. Once we receive your email, we will make the change in our database.

» Want to defer to the 2015 Eight Mile Road Race?

» What are the age restrictions?

The races are open to all ages. However, the course is challenging and we ask that all participants are properly trained to complete the desired course.

» Where do I collect my packet?

You can pick-up your registration packet at the Mission Point Resort Sound Stage, located next to the main lobby building. Remember to bring a picture ID.

» What are the expo hours?

Friday, September 5, 2014 – 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

» Will I be able to store my gear during the race?

» Are there any hotel discounts?

Yes. Since Mission Point Resort is the Host Hotel for the event, they are offering discounted rates to participants of the event. In order to reserve a discounted room at Mission Point Resort, please call 1-800-833-7711 and ask for the Eight Mile rate. Discounts cannot be applied when booking online.

» Do I have to stay on the island?

No, you can stay at a hotel on the main land. The ferry lines will be running extra boats the morning of the race. Please check with your preferred ferry line on sailing times for the morning the race. To ensure that you arrive to the race on time, we suggest you leave the main land no later than 10:00 AM.

» Are there any ferry discounts?

All three ferry lines (Arnolds, Shepler’s and Star Line) are offering discounts for participants of the race. Please use the following discount codes when purchasing your ferry tickets:

Star Line Hydro-Jet Ferry- RACE (Can be used online or in-person)

Arnold Transit Co. - No code needed. Simply mention the race when purchasing tickets in-person.

» What is the weather like on the island?

The weather varies with the season. The average high for the beginning of September is 72 degrees, and the average low is 47 degrees. Please check the weather during the week leading up to the race and prepare accordingly.

» What do I do if my shirt is too large or small for me?

We can accommodate. Since we order sizes and quantities based on entries, on race day we cannot change out sizes prior to the race. However, after the race feel free to bring your shirt to the sound stage and we will gladly exchange it for a better size that fits you while quantities last.

» What time do the races start?

The 8 Mile Run will begin at 9:30 AM, the 8 Mile Walk will begin at 9:32 AM and the Kid's Fun Run will start at 11:30 AM.

» Where are the start lines?

The start line for both the 8 Mile Run and Walk are located directly in front of the Mission Point Resort. The Kid's Fun Run will be located in the park in front of Mission Point Resort.

» Do both races finish at the same point?

Yes, both races will finish in the park, along the lake shores in front of Mission Point Resort.

» What are the courses like?

» Can I run with a stroller?

For the safety of your child and other runners, we do not allow strollers on the course.

» What about pets?

We do not allow dogs on the course either. Due to the wildlife on the island, and for the safety of yourself and other participants, we strongly ask that you do not run or walk with your pets.

» Are headphones allowed on course?

We do allow the use of headphones during our races, however we ask that you run with one earpiece in and one out.

» What if I cannot complete the 8 mile course in 2.5 hours?

In order to comply with park permits, the roads will reopen in a graduated fashion. We require that participants be properly prepared and trained to complete the eitht miles within 2.5 hours (19 min/mile pace). Medals and official finish times will be given to all finishers who complete the race within 2.5 hours.

» Will there be bathrooms on the course?

Porta-Johns will be located near the start/finish line area only. If you have to use the restroom along the course, please find a discreet location or use the restrooms at British Landing (4 mile point on the course) or at Arch Rock (7 mile point on the course).

» How many water stations are on the course?

Three water stations will be located approximately every two miles along the course. There will also be water available at the finish line.

» Is there childcare available during the race?

No. Facilities for childcare are not available during the race.

» Is there food available after I finish?

Yes, we will have fruit, cookies and water available at the finish line.

» Where will the results be posted?

Race results will be posted in the Sound Stage during the race. You may also use your SmartPhone to retrieve immediate results online. The online link will become available the week leading up to the race.

» Do I get a medal?

Participants who complete the race will receive a commemorative medal at the finish line.

» Are you giving out awards?

Yes, awards for the Eight Mile Run and Walk will be given to the overall male and female winners, the overall masters male and female, and the top three finishers in each age division.

» Will there be an awards ceremony?

There will not be a formal awards ceremony following the race. After the results have been finalized, award winners can retrieve their hardware in the Sound Stage of Mission Point Resort.

» What if I win an award and don’t realize it until I get home?

Not a problem. Simply Contact Us, let us know the place you won and in which age-group, and we will send the award to you.

» If I am an award winner, can I have my award engraved?

Yes, engravings are available for age-group awards at Bauman's Running & Walking Shop. You must mail a self-addressed stamped envelope to Bauman's Running & Walking Shop. 1473 W. Hill Road, Flint, MI 48507. Please include the following information:

» Are there changing rooms available after the race?

Yes, there is a health club located in the Mission Point Resort Activities Center, located below the Sound Stage. The use of the health club is complimentary to hotel guests of Mission Point. Non-guests will be charged a fee. Please contact Mission Point at 1-800-833-7711 for current fees.
